| Undrafted? Stay Motivated! - Tuesday, October 12, 2010 CMG Sports Having Record Year in Free Agent Market
In its most impressive season so far, CMG Sports has found success in a market that barely existed five years ago: “Draft Aged Free agent camp invites”. In this 2010-11 pre-season alone, CMG Sports secured over 100 NHL camps for its clients, many of whom have already been signed to NHL contracts. Close to 25% of those camp invitations were draft-aged players (18 to 20 years old) who were extended invitations as free agents. An NHL Club that has passed on draft eligible players can still extend an Amateur tryout to such players, and are allowed to sign these same players, if they so wish. Within the last month, CMG Sports has negotiated NHL contracts for Jace Coyle (WHL) with the Dallas Stars, Curt Gogol (WHL) with the San Jose Sharks, Trevor Parkes (QMJHL) with the Detroit Red Wings, and Colton Jobke (WHL) with the Minnesota Wild, all draft aged free agent invites. “We have seen a rise in interest from NHL teams toward securing Entry Level Players early on, if they have passed through the NHL draft”, says Allain Roy, President of CMG Sports. “We always tell our clients that the draft is not the ”be all and end all” for their careers. With these recent developments, it is proof that many players will have a chance to play in the NHL without being drafted. For instance, we have negotiated three of these Entry Level type contracts for our clients in the past three years with the Detroit Red Wings. Some NHL teams seem to gravitate toward these types of signings more than others”.

CMG offers extensive services and sound advice to a limited number of clients. As a mentor for future and current professional athletes.
CMG Sports is prepared to guide its clients through the experiences of a professional athlete. CMG's valuable insights will help with the negotiation of contracts and the adjustment to life as a pro athlete. In addition, the clients partnership with CMG Sports will help them develop their skills in dealing with the news media, setting personal and professional goals, as well as guiding their investment decisions. Finally, CMG clients will receive assistance in preparation for their future following a pro career.
Based on its Major Junior, College, International, and Professional experiences, CMG recognizes that not all players have the same needs. This versatility has resulted in the development of standard services for all clients and a menu of additional specialized services that CMG clients select as needed.
Whether a player is a First Round Prospect or a Seventh Round Selection, CMG believes that all of its clients should be treated with the utmost respect and attention. Why get lost in the shuffle at an oversized agency where the players' needs come second to their agents'? At CMG, the client's success is our only business.
" We are heartbroken by the loss of an important and beloved member of the CMG Sports family, Rick Rypien. Rick was a great friend and teammate on and off the ice and will be missed dearly by the hockey world. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in these difficult times. Rick was a true warrior with a big heart. Anyone who came into contact with him got to experience his charisma and extreme generosity. He brought a lot of joy and excitement to many lives and he will be sorely missed. He was truly a pleasure to work with and will never be forgotten. I am sure he would want us to thank all of the supporters, teammates and friends that have encouraged him throughout the years. He truly loved his years as a Regina Pat, Vancouver Canuck, Manitoba Moose, and he was looking forward to being a Winnipeg Jet. We will always remember Rick as a loyal friend who always put others ahead of himself and who carried his heart on his sleeve. We will miss you Ryp! May you rest in peace and may your family get through this difficult time with all of our support. Always in our hearts."
